“Blue and white porcelain” is one of the famous porcelains in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province of China. It can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty at the earliest.
Jingdezhen porcelain is beautiful in shape, wide in variety, rich in decoration and unique in style. The popularity of blue and white porcelain is extremely broad. In terms of time, not only the official kilns of the Ming and Qing dynasties, but also all generations of kilns; in terms of region, it also has an important contribution to world culture.
Through foreign trade, blue and white porcelain was continuously exported and spread to all parts of the world, reaching the South Pacific Countries in Southeast Asia, the Near East, the Middle East, Europe and Africa. Southeast Asia is the so-called “Nanyang”.
Blue and white items are also known as Kitchen Qing. During the British colonial period, large number of Chinese immigrant flooded into Nanyang to seek for opportunities. Blue and white porcelain is a material culture and a practical tool with rich practical value. It is the precious remains of Nanyang witnessing the footstep of the Chinese cultural development.
